My mom told me after we moved into our house that “a home is a never ending project. There’s always something that needs to be done.” When we signed on our house we had a vision in mind for things we wanted to do,and, 5 years later, our house has undergone some big changes.
After moving in the landscaping around our house wasn’t bad, but it was very baron. Originally, our yard wasn’t enclosed, so we called the family over and put up a fence. But it needed something more.
Here’s our house 5 years ago:
As a landscaper, the appearance of our yard is something Chris takes very personally. He is constantly bringing home plants, and trees, and adding features on yard. He has done some serious work not only on the outside of our house, but on the inside as well (thats a whole different story.. maybe some other time).
Fast forward 5 years. Though we are still making small changes, this is our back yard now:
Chris has done giant restorations to our yard. He’s removed trees, built a deck and a patio, ripped out screening, and replanted hedges. He’s made flower beds for me, and a garden for us to have fresh vegetables in the fall. This man has seriously worked his butt off to make it more “entertaining” for our friends and family.
I was so excited with all he was doing, I wanted to help too! So, as most of girls do, I started browsing pinterest for “backyard inspiration” …
Since adding the bird feeders, we’ve had lots of visitors pop up in our back yard.

On the far side of our house, Chris built a special little home for all our Easter Chicks. Yeah. We kept them. But the good news is, after our garden is producing its harvest, we’ll have fresh eggs every morning too.

But what I really love about our backyard, is what happens right as it gets dark. All of our solar lights kick on and then it becomes our own little piece of glowing paradise.

Yes, even David’s playhouse is lit up. Because boys have to have their own space too, right?

Our house is still a work in progress. It always will be. Our floors still need grouting, and baseboards need to be put up, a guest room to be painted – the list will always be there. But, it’s the little things you do to make your house a home.
What projects do you have undergoing in your home?
