I suppose you could say Mike + Kelly are high school sweethearts. They’ve been together since Kelly was in high school. They are the type of couple that you know just “gets” each other – they’ve spent so many years together that it just makes sense. Mike’s proposal was unlike any I’ve ever heard… while out surfing one day; Kelly paddled hard to catch a wave and rode all the way in with her toes on the nose (hanging ten!). As she paddled back toward Mike she exclaimed “did you see me!? I had all my toes, right here! (gesturing to the edge of the board).” Right where?” Mike replied.. “Right here…” Kelly exclaimed again… and in that moment, Mike laid a beautiful engagement ring on the edge of the board, and asked for Kelly’s hand. (Do you need a tissue? I do!)
They are two fun-loving and incredibly sweet people, and together they make quite a pair. Their day was filled with so much laughter and so many sweet, personal moments. It was all so beautiful.
It was so special to me to see these two get married. Last year, during their engagement shoot, I could see how in love they were with each other, and how important they were to one another. I felt so honored to be present for all of their special moments throughout the day… which is one of the many reasons I love what I do. From the laughing to the tears, there was no shortage of emotion on Kelly + Mike’s wedding day.
Here’s a few of my favorites from their day!
Mikes gift to Kelly on their wedding day was the starting piece to a memory quilt, in which he told her he would like to add pieces on to it while they are on their honeymoon in Europe! (so jealous.)
I love how they included their dog Murphy in not only their engagement shots, but in their wedding as well. (I have two Jack Russell’s, but now I think I kinda might want a Boston Terrier too!)
I was so excited that Kelly + Mike chose to do a first look! We had them meet out on the beach, because, I mean, what other place would be better?
After Mike + Kelly saw each other, their dog Murphy was released from the top of the dune walk to come join the fun.
Kelly, my dear. Wow. Just Wow. You are one gorgeous bride!
Love this shot Chris took of the rope being used in Kelly + Mikes ceremony!
After their ceremony, the bridal party followed the newly weds to a special spot on the beach, to dig up some “buried treasure” of sorts.
Southern folklore says that if you bury a bottle of bourbon at the site where the bride and groom are saying I do then it won’t rain on their wedding day and you’ll have gorgeous weather! To those that believe, this must be done exactly one month before the wedding, the bottle must be completely full and it must be buried upside down in order for it to be the ideal weather!
Congratulations Mr. + Mrs. McVinney!
